"The best way to make a golf course is to build it on a piece of land that is already beautiful." -Donald Ross

The tidal rivers of Salem Sound surround this exceptional property where Donald Ross designed an amazingly beautiful championship golf course. Tides, wind and temperature interact with the Ross course design to create a unique playing experience each day. Golfers of all abilities are rewarded with incredible views, great playing experiences, and member camaraderie.

Donald Ross designed 413 courses, including Pinehurst No. 2 in North Carolina, Seminole in Florida, and the site of the 1996 U.S. Open, Oakland Hills outside Detroit. His signature can be witnessed throughout the course at Kernwood, where he used natural elements and the existing lay of the land to construct a series of links that remain both challenging, and rewarding, for golfers of all levels.

Born in 1872 in the Scottish coastal town of Dornoch, as a young man he took up "the keeping of the green." After a year of apprenticeship at St. Andrews, he became adept not only at maintaining the grounds but also as a player and club maker. After many years of experience, he became known as "the man" to design the next great golf course.
